What Is Student Loan Consolidation?
Nearly half of all college graduates have reported taking out some sort of student loan in order to help finance their education. Since most graduates do take out loans to pay for their college, many are choosing to use student loan consolidation to help relieve their financial burden after graduation. The following paragraphs will take a closer look at what student loan consolidation is, as well as discuss the interest rates associated with student loan consolidation.
Student loan consolidation is the act of combining more than one student loan into one loan, then repay all of the initial student loans with just one monthly payment. Commonly with this is, the monthly payment will be lower than the payments of the combined unconsolidated loans, as well as student loan consolidation rates of interest. You can also chose time limits up to 30 years to repay the new loan. While this is all beneficial thus far, there is one clear disadvantage associated with college loan consolidation.
It is a true fact that you get a longer time period for repayment when you consolidate loans, and most commonly a lower monthly payment, but that means you will be paying back far more interest than you would have paid with your original student loan agreements. In other words, you will get have more time to pay back your debt, with a lower interest rate, but you will be required to pay this interest for the entire duration of you student loan consolidation agreement.
Currently, the common loan rates are fixed for the life of the loan, which is another advantage. Most private student loan rates are variable, and can change at any time during the loan contract. Having a fixed rate means you will have the same interest rate throughout the duration of your loan agreement; it will never change.
So, while you will likely have to pay back more interest when you consolidate student loans, there are many advantages that can outweigh that disadvantage. If you are considering this, first do your research to ensure you get the best loan suited for your individual needs.
If you need more information on the subject, you can use the internet. By utilizing your favorite search engine, you can generate a list of links that can help you to determine if student loan consolidation can help you. Student Loans For Those With Bad Credit
When it comes time for you to start college, you really do not want your bad credit to get in the way. The good news, too, is that it does not have to. You still have access to a number of loans - and at reasonable rates. Here is some information to tell you about what kind of student loans are available to you.
One thing that should help you to relax some is that a number of available college loans from the government do not even look at your credit rating. They tend to make the assumption that applicants are fresh out of high school and have not had any time to even think about their credit rating - let alone build a decent one. One of these is the Stafford loan, which allows anyone to apply.
The Stafford loans come in two different types - subsidized and unsubsidized. The subsidized version of this loan is based entirely on the need the student has for that year. If you get the loan, you must also apply each year that you need the benefits. One nice thing about this loan is that it pays your interest while you are in school. The unsubsidized version is available to any student - regardless of your need.
Another Federal loan that does not require good credit is the Perkins loan. This loan is made available to students through their entire college years. It can be provide amounts up to $4,000 per year, for a total of $20,000.
Both of these loan programs should be looked at before you look anywhere else. When it comes to interest, any Federal loan program will be lower than anywhere else. This means it will provide you with the most savings over the years that it will take to pay it back.
One school loan that could also help you to subsidize that education, even if you have bad credit, is an OSL loan. These private loans are more expensive than the Federal schools loans, but remain less expensive than your more standard traditional personal loans. They are not backed by the Government, but at the same time, will give a higher percentage toward your education goals than the Federal loans.
Another way to get a loan for your education, even though you have bad credit, is to get a PLUS program. This loan actually needs to be made by the parents of the student. Since the student is not actually applying, the basis of the interest rating will be on that of the parents and not on the bad credit of the student.
Other loans are available to those with bad credit. Some of these will apply to the special field of education, such as medical, etc., which can be obtained as personal loans. When it comes to getting any other kind of loan, other than Federal, be sure to do some comparing to see which one is the best. In many cases, it will be necessary to get loans from different sources in order to complete your education.

college loan consolidation programme
After completing long years of education students often find themselves under the burden of educational loans or student debt loans. And many students find the debt to be too much to be able to bear immediately. Many students, in such a situation, would like to have either lesser monthly repayment amounts or would like to start repaying the loan a bit later.
Authorized by the Higher Education Act of 1965 the federal student loan consolidation program offers the opportunity to refinance the existing federal loans with a new federal loan. This is indeed a boon in disguise for a number of students who run debts due to student loans.
A large number of the federal consolidation loans (student loans) are offered by the private sector lenders and are backed by the guarantee of the federal government. A subsidized federal loan consolidation generally offers similar benefits to the student’s current federal loan besides reducing the monthly loan payment by extending the student loan repayment period to as long as thirty years. Although increasing the repayment period results in paying more interest over time, students can pay off a federal consolidation loan early without penalty. Every July the government reset the interest rate on the student’s current federal loan. After college loan consolidation the interest on the loan of student is fixed and does not vary with time. This gives benefits to students who can lock in their fixed rate of interest when they are low and are expected go up in near future.
Since the government doesn’t allow the federal consolidation lenders from charging for their services, the students are saved from the hassles of credit checks, employment verifications and fees. The student has to provide some personal information such as two personal references, information regarding the existing student loan and the entire application process is completed quickly online or over the phone. This is really convenient for the student because this not only saves them money but also time, and also makes the student loan federal process much faster.
Almost everybody who applies for a federal student loan qualifies for it provided they have more than $7,500 in federal loans and haven’t defaulted on them. Federal student loan consolidation program is a very convenient way to solve your financial issues, but is best to consult a professional to assess your situation before you sign on the dotted line. This will ensure you have taken care of the subtleties involved in the transaction and will avoid the undesirable risks.

Student Loans as education financing option…
After finishing high school students realize that they have to take financial assistance to pursue their education further. Some are lucky and have the support of their parents. Those who don’t have this support or any other option, have to search for suitable source to fund their education. This assistance is in the form of student loans offered by various organizations and lending sources (this includes the Federal student loans too). College loans help in one of the biggest financial commitments of a person’s life and therefore it helps to know the options (various type of student loans, student consolidation loans, student refinancing loans, etc) before making any decisions.
Government Student Loans are one of the most popular student loan programs among students. The amount of college graduate loan you can get depends on various factors including the financial support received from the parents. Of course, the tuition fee is one of the important criterions that is considered too. The student loan interest rate may vary according to the amount of loan and the repayment starts after the completion of studies.
Student loans can also be secured through banks. There are various financial institutions in the market that offer loans to students. Besides a reasonable rate of interest, many banks expect a minimal payment and some even attach the loan to an existing account. This offers a lot of convenience and students can free themselves from the financial worries.
Another finance option for student is the credit card that offers assistance on short-term basis. Although cash from credit card is easily accessible, a person has to start the monthly repayments immediately. The interest on the loan secured by credit card is also very high and students may find themselves in huge debts due to over dependence on these financial tools.
With the increase of tuition fees each year it has become very difficult to finish college without some financial assistance for the student. Knowing the student financial aid options will definitely help the students. A comparison of the various options and the student loan interest rates will facilitate in making an informed choice about the right kind of student loan.
Many students opt for student loan consolidation. Generally, the motivating factor being going for a student loan consolidation is that the student loan consolidation interest might be lesser than the interest on the current loan. Also, it might allow a longer student loan repayment period and hence decrease the monthly college loan outgo.

How The Federal Student Loan Consolidation Programs Work
For students, the debt burden at an early stage in their life could be a cause of great worry. Sometimes students have to get more than one student loans in order to finance their studies. Hence the debt increases even more. Federal govt. recognizes this problem faced by the students and hence created ways and means to help the students deal with it. Courtesy Higher Education Act (HEA), there are several student loan consolidation programs available. You have loan consolidation programs under Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) programs and you also have loan consolidation programs under the direct loan program. But how do these programs work? And how does Federal student loan consolidation make the student debt more manageable? Let’s take a look in order to understand this before actually rushing to a student loan consolidation service. Any loan consolidation program works by paying off the current loans or current debts (i.e. the student college loans or student debts) and creating a new loan account i.e. the consolidation loan account. Generally, as part of student loan consolidation, several Federal student loans are consolidated as a single loan. The college loans that are consolidated might have different student loan terms, student loan interest rates and schedules. The outstanding amount, of course, on the various loans being consolidated would be different in most cases. This means there are a whole lot of student loan consolidation calculations that must be carried out in order to arrive at the amount, the student consolidated loan term and student consolidate loan interest etc. The student loan interest calculations are done by considering the current student loans and the student-loan interest on those loans. Federal uses a formula to calculate the student consolidation. Similarly, Federal governed guidelines have been established for start of the repayment of the loan (at the time of writing this article, this period was 60 days from the disbursement of the consolidated loan). Similarly, the payback term is generally kept between 10-30 years. Like other things, there are certain factors (again Federal governed) that are considered for determining the eligibility on the repayment term. The two main factors that are considered for the repayment term on the consolidated student college loans include the student education debt amount that you are consolidating and the repayment option you select. More details about the Federal student debt consolidation, their eligibility criteria and how they make student debt more manageable is discussed in our other articles.
Student Loan Consolidation Plans Available In The Market
Many students find it difficult to manage the student loan repayments debt especially in the initial stages of their career. Such students look for various options in order to tackle student debt effectively and come out clean. And student loan consolidation plans offer them several good options to tackle student loan repayment problems. We have already discussed two types of student loan consolidation plans in the part -1 of this article. In brief, what we discussed in part 1 was the plan that keeps the monthly repayment amount constant from the first student loan repayment installment itself; and we also discussed the plan in which the initial monthly repayment amounts of student loans are kept low by recovering only the interest portion (and the principal recovery starts a bit later). There is another type of student loan consolidation plan that is available. This type of plans uses your monthly pay as one of the factors for determining the monthly repayment amount for your consolidated student loan. Of course, the other important factor used to compute the monthly repayment amount is the student loan debt itself. However, this is not done on monthly basis. Instead, this calculation is done on an annual basis and the borrower needs to submit the required documentation every year in order for the lender to compute a monthly college loan repayment amount that is affordable. Also, there are certain rules that the lenders follow in order to maintain a range for the monthly repayment amounts. So, this kind of student education loan repayment amount is very useful for students who want their monthly repayment amounts to be in tune with their salary. However, the annual documentation submission and calculation exercise can be a bit of a pain for you. Yet another student loan consolidation plan involves a great deal of extension in the loan repayment period thereby lowering the monthly repayment amount for your consolidated student loan. However, such plans generally have a lot of terms and conditions attached with them especially with respect to the eligibility of the borrower and the maximum loan repayment term that is allowed. Again, this kind of plan generally offers several options which are actually combinations of other student loan consolidation plans with this plan e.g. you can choose to keep your monthly repayment amount constant over the whole repayment term or you might choose to pay only the interest portion for the first few years (in order to further lower your initial monthly repayment amount of your student loan). But note that this kind of plan too is increases the interest cost of your student educational loan.
College Loans - Easy Money
Today a check came in the mail… $5,338.00.
The check came in my daughters name. She’ll be a senior at St John’s University this year in September.
But, she needs to go to summer school. She will be taking 2 classes... Spanish Level II - 3.0 credits and Public Speaking Col - 3.0 credits ……… for a total of 6.0 credits.
Language Lab Fee………… $25.00 Tuition: St Johns College……$5,238.00
University General Fee………$50.00. … Total - $5,338.00 …
That’s how much the check was for… $5,338.00 It was from her favorite lender Sallie Mae.
The envelope with the check was addressed to my daughter, not me. I didn’t even know she had applied for the loan.
She didn’t ask my opinion or advice or permission. She’s 20 years old, no longer my little girl. Old enough to borrow $5,338.00 on her own. Damn!
There will come a time when that $5,338 will have to be paid back. There is a price to be paid for this "easy-money".
At about $50/mo, it will take about 10 years to pay that off. … Not so easy to pay back! My daughter owes $28,973.13 in student loans so far. She still has at least 1 more year to go for a bachelors degree.
Plus she has to go to grad school for at least another 2 years if she wants to find a job in Psychology...
And she’s talking about going for a doctorate degree. Another 2 years. If she keeps borrowing at the same rate over the next 5 years, to get her PhD, she’ll owe $72,432 in student loans.
$72,432 in student loans - Easy Money!
And that doesn’t take into account inflation and the increasing cost of higher education each and every year.
Most students (and their parents) will end up taking out student loans. However, if you can get some scholarship money, that is money you don’t have to pay back.
Since ALL schools are inundated with too many applications for scholarship money, emphasis is placed on the scholarship essay to determine who will get the available scholarship monies.
Unfortunately, many students and parents don’t know how to apply for scholarships. Here is a quick but important tip for winning scholarship money.
Set yourself apart from the thousands of other applicants by being specific about what you have done in your life. If you’ve achieved, tell the judges. Put your best foot forward.
If you have family responsibilities, tell them what you do. Otherwise the judges don’t know. Write about what you have actually done and you will be remembered by the committee members and increase your chances of winning scholarships.

student loan information
Student loans are specifically designed to help students meet the costs of a higher education. For most students loans are necessary, but like any loan, they should only be used as a last resort. Student Loans are obligations that must be repaid. They are often part of student financial aid packages, which assist with paying for their education. Many times student loans are the key to whether a young adult will be able to attend college.
The loans are generally classified into three types: Federal Student Loans for students, Federal Student Loans for parents and Private Student Loans for students or parents, and fall into three main categories, federal loans, private loans, and debt consolidation loans. If college or private school is still several years away, then a good plan is to start saving now. If the last two decades are any indication, the price of two and four-year public and private colleges are exceeding inflation and family income.
Federal Student Loans
Federal student loans are some of the most affordable loans available to students and families, with interest rates lower than most other forms of financing and deferred payments (principal and interest) until after graduation. Federal financial aid is limited and it's no secret that appropriations for aid have not kept up with rising tuition costs and inflation. Federal financial aid and federal student loans are based largely on demonstrated financial need (except for the PLUS loan), and if you fall in the category of “not poor enough for aid, and not rich enough to pay out of pocket"; federal financial aid may be no help at all. It isn't very easy to decide between federal student loans and private student loans. Federal student loans are awarded, according to the needs of the applicants and thus, this guarantees approval even if you have bad credit or no credit at all or if you don’t have a suitable income for affording a private student loan. Federal loans should be the first place you look for funds after you have received scholarship or grant money. Federal loans can be used to pay for tuition, room and board, fees and other education related expenses. Federal Pell grants (not loans) are available for students whose family income is under $40,000. Federal Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) loans are granted to creditworthy parents of dependent, undergraduate students. Federal PLUS loans are loans made to parents, and can be used to cover up to the total cost of your education, excluding any financial aid you receive. Federal PLUS Loans are low-interest loans made to parents of dependent undergraduate students and to graduate or professional students. Federal PLUS loans are not based on financial need.
Private Student Loans
Most student loans are funded by the federal government although they can also be financed through individual institutions and private lenders. Private loans can also be used to supplement federal student loans, when federal loans, grants and other forms of financial aid are not sufficient to cover the full cost of higher education. Unlike government loans, there are fewer controls on the cost and pricing of these private loans. Under current rules, if you were to borrow directly from the government under the Stafford program right now it might cost as much as 4 percent of the amount to be borrowed, or 3 percent if you were borrowing from a private lender subsidized under the Federal Family Education Loan Program FFELP(used by about 80 percent of colleges and universities). Graduate Students can also receive school loans as Private Student Loans to help cover the total cost of college. To use private student loans as a substitution to federal aid, rather than a supplement is short-sighted on the part of the borrower. As reputable private loan sources purport, private student loans are only valuable when filling the gap between total college expenses and a borrower's awarded financial aid.
Indeed private student loans have their advantages. One of the benefits of a private student loan is that you have lots of ways of repaying it. Many financial aid experts will urge prospective students, with conviction, that private student loans are the logical alternative to federal aid in affording higher education. Furthermore, private aid is awarded not on need-based criteria like federal aid, rather on creditworthiness. You do not have to file forms with the federal government in order to apply for a private student loan. Private foundations granted more than $3 billion in scholarships to eligible students. It is best to use private student loans after you have applied for all other available aid sources recommended by your school. Most first-time students will ask a credit-worthy parent or other to co-sign the application in order to qualify for private student college loans. Because private loans are based on the credit history of the applicant, the overhead charge will vary. "Interest rates on private loans can climb to well over 12 percent.
Credit
It is good to have one national card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover) on hand to help you build a positive credit history and to provide security in emergencies. Do you whip out a credit card to pay for your books, or do you apply for a federal or private loan. With a credit card the interest rate can be as high as 21%. This is not to say that credit cards do not have a place in your college life. Students and families with excellent credit will generally receive lower rates and smaller loan origination fees than those with less than perfect credit.
If you don't repay your student loans on time or according to the terms of your promissory note, you might go into default, which will affect your credit rating. Here are some consequences of default: National credit bureaus can be notified of your default, which will harm your credit rating, making it hard to buy a car or a house. The parents have signed the master promissory note to pay and, if they do not do so, it is their credit rating that suffers.
Student Loan Consolidation
A Consolidation Loan allows you to combine all the federal student loans you received to finance your college education into a single loan. Consolidation pays off your original student loans. Consolidation of student loans can be the ideal solution when one requires help to manage their debt. Consolidation allows you to lock-in the lowest possible interest rate. Consolidation offers lower monthly payments by giving borrowers up to 30 years to repay their loans. A lender can provide a new consolidation loan borrower with the lowest statutory weighted average interest rate for loans by using the lower of the weighted average of the interest rates on the loans being consolidated as of July 1 or the date the lender received the borrower's consolidation loan application. A Direct Stafford subsidized or unsubsidized loan or at least one Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) program Stafford subsidized or unsubsidized loan will be included in the Consolidation loan. You should keep in mind that although consolidation can simplify loan repayment and lower your monthly payment, it also can significantly increase the total cost of repaying your loans. If you don't need monthly payment relief, you should compare the cost of repaying your unconsolidated loans against the cost of repaying a consolidation loan. Take the time to study your consolidation options before you submit your application. Federally funded loans are administered initially through the US Department of Education's Federal Student Aid programs, and are usually the easiest to get student loan consolidation services for. The rate on your Consolidation Loan will be fixed for the life of your loan. The interest rate on a Consolidation Loan is set according to federal law. There is private loan consolidation, and it's worth looking into--some of the banks offer interest rate discounts and co-borrower release after a few years of consecutive on-time payments.
Student Loan Repayment
Repayment is now defined as not beginning until 6 months and one day after the date the student ceases to carry at least one-half the normal full-time academic workload, as determined by the school. Repayment of Consolidation Loans begins within 60 days of the disbursement of the loan. Think about your repayment options and now might be a good time to consider student loan consolidation. Your monthly payment will depend on the size of your debt and the length of your repayment period. We can't emphasize enough the importance of making your full loan payment on time either monthly (which is usually when you'll pay) or according to your repayment schedule. Student loans are real loans just as real as car loans or mortgages.

How to Choose a Mesothelioma Lawyer
Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer, but the deadliest one of all. The victims of mesothelioma are innocent men and women who did not know that they were being poisoned with asbestos as they worked. The manufacturers and even distributors knew for decades that asbestos was hazardous, but they did not warn people of those hazards. As a result, you have the right of recovery against those manufacturers, which on the other hand can help pay the costs of treatment and provide compensation for your pain and suffering.Although nothing can truly compensate for loss of health or life, mesothelioma lawyers are devoted to getting you the compensation you deserve. If your life has been affected by mesothelioma directly or indirectly, then you may deserve compensation.Filing a mesothelioma lawsuit is a long and tedious process. So, it is vital to your case that you find an experienced mesothelioma lawyer, and as soon as you have been diagnosed with the cancer. Most states have a time limit in which you can file your mesothelioma lawsuit. If you miss that deadline, you may find that you are not entitled to make a claim. Earlier you get to a mesothelioma lawyer, the better your chances of success. Here are a few important guidelines in finding a good mesothelioma lawyer.Mesothelioma Law FirmThere’s no such thing as a mesothelioma law firm because one law firm can deal with a variation of cases, but it is best to select a law firm or an attorney that has past experience of dealing with mesothelioma cases. They have already done the leg work and gained the knowledge and experience with mesothelioma. But, do not disregard any other law firm. A mesothelioma case is just like any other case that requires responsibility and discipline from the attorney to win your case. A law firm with a very good reputation can as well handle your mesothelioma case, if not better, even if they have never been exposed to a mesothelioma lawsuit.Searching for a mesothelioma lawyerYou can begin your search on the Internet or in the yellow pages. However, your local or state bar association, and Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory (found in most public libraries) will give you narrower search and help you find your mesothelioma lawyer a whole lot faster. The Martindale-Hubbell Legal Network has a database of over a million lawyers and law firms in 160 countries. You could actually find the Martindale-Hubbell Legal Network online as well. Just search for it in your favorite search engine. How do you select your mesothelioma lawyer? The Oklahoma Bar Association has put out excellent guidelines regarding choosing an attorney. They state that "Selecting a lawyer is a personal matter. You must judge which particular attorney will be best for you. Before making a decision, however, you may want to contact several lawyers or law firms to gather some comparative information. When choosing a lawyer, keep practical considerations in mind: the lawyer’s area of expertise, prior experience and reputation, convenience of office location, amount of fees charged and the length of time a case may take. A lawyer’s communication skills are another factor. Willingness and ability to talk to you in language you understand and responsiveness to your questions will influence how well informed you are about the progress of your case.It is advisable that you select an attorney with whom you feel comfortable. These preferences may guide you in selecting someone with whom you feel most comfortable. It is important that you trust the lawyer you hire -- and that you believe he or she will do the best job possible in protecting your legal rights. But keep in mind that most lawsuits and other legal work are not "sure things." You should be cautious of an attorney who guarantees results. No lawyer can be expected to win every case, and sometimes the best legal advice may not be exactly what you want to hear."When do you seek a mesothelioma lawyer? The timely process of selecting a mesothelioma lawyer and the proper filing of your mesothelioma lawsuit can make all the difference between a multi-million dollar compensation claim to secure the future of your family (once and if you are gone), and getting nothing at all for your pain, suffering, and loss of life. That means you need to seek a mesothelioma lawyer as soon as you or someone in your family has been diagnosed with this dangerous cancer.Disclaimer: The author and publisher of this article have done their best to give you useful, informative and accurate information. college loan consolidation
Many students use student loans as a means to finance higher education and carve out a better career for themselves. One of the main reasons for taking up higher education (especially when you have to borrow money to get it) is the lure of better and higher paying jobs that a person can get after completing their education. So, in that sense, it does make good sense to borrow money. Federal government makes available several types of Federal student loans to suit the needs of various students. The private money lenders too have recognized this need of the students and offer various graduate loans, college loans etc. By and large, the Federal student loans seem to be the most popular among the students. And many students use Federal loans for students as a financial aid for continuing their education. Some students might need to borrow more than once and hence end up with more student debt (Federal student loan debt or private student loan debt). And sometimes, the students might find it difficult to repay the federal students loans that form a major part of their debt. This could be due to unanticipated financial crisis situation or due to overall changes in the economy that cause scarcity of good jobs or for other reasons. Whatever be the reason, in such a case the student is left looking for options and ways to tackle the problem. And generally, the problem is temporary in nature (unless the student is too undisciplined in his or her use of money). For such students, Federal student loan consolidation comes as a great relief. Subject to certain terms and conditions (and eligibility criteria), the debt ridden students can apply for a Federal college loan consolidation. The main attraction in going for Federal loan consolidation is that the immediate financial burden on the student is reduced i.e. the total monthly outgo is reduced. This is generally achieved either through increasing the repayment term of the Federal student loan or through getting the Federal consolidation loan at a lower interest rate than the Federal student loan interest on the current Federal student loan. However, these might not be the only reasons to go for student loan consolidation from Federal. There are several other reasons due to which students opt for Federal consolidation of loans (please check the other article which discusses the secondary reasons behind considering a Federal college loan consolidation).
